Traditional Style Lomilomi Class

Come and learn Traditional Style Lomilomi bodywork and gain an introduction into Hawaiian Healing Arts with Olivia Hageman in this 13-week program.

These classes are open to everyone, no massage experience necessary. Prior anatomy and physiology is required prior to the bodywork section. Please call Olivia to discuss options.

In this program we will cover the following topics:

Dates: July 11- October 3rd, Mondayʻs 12 noon- 5pm

Lectures:

July 11th: The Science of Touch- an in-depth look at the physiology of touch, how it effects the body of the recipient and how trigger points develop in the tissues.

July 18th: Ethics & Communication- Standards of Practice and Ethics for massage therapy, communicating effectively with clients, intake and treatment plan formulation

July 25th: Body Mechanics & Injury Prevention- This class is unique in that you will learn all about the effects of poor postures, static loading, and how to effect changes in your own practice as well as to how to recognize postural malalignments in your clients and guide them towards feeling better on a daily basis with targeted home care advice.

August 1st: Introduction to Lomilomi - Where Lomi originates from historically within Hawaiian culture and history. We take a look at different lineages of Lomi, who and where they come from, how Lomi was applied historically vs. today, the importance of Protocol, the effects of colonialization and the resurgence of the Hawaiian culture in modern times.

August 8th: Introduction to Hawaiian Cultural Concepts- A brief overview of the Gods and Goddesses, the importance of prayer in traditional Hawaiian culture and how it is related to the practice of Lomilomi, the connection between Lomi to Hula, Lomilomi protocols, what is mana and ike, the brain body connection, and understanding metaphysical reasons for bodily ailments.

*August 15- Sept 19th: Traditional Style Lomilomi Bodywork Protocol- learn how to give a full body Traditional Style Lomilomi massage, a blend of three different lineages of Lomilomi as given to us by Aunty Suzi Ko. Introduction to Lomilomi and Introduction to Hawaiian Culture are required for this class. $900 (must be taken as a series)

September 26th: Introduction to Hawaiian Terms and Plant medicines, guest lecture on the native healing plants of our local area.

Classes can be taken individually or in bundles. Each class is $150 per person, a 10% discount will be given for 3 or more classes booked. If you have no prior massage experience, requirements for bodywork classes will also include Science of Touch, Ethics and Body Mechanics.

*Introduction to Lomilomi and Introduction to Hawaiian Culture are prerequisites for Traditional Style Lomilomi Bodywork.

Payment can be made in advance or day of. Checks preferred.
